Wrong Turn 2: Dead End (2007)

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End (USA, 2007) - Color, Director(s): Joe Lynch
MPAA Rating: R
Approx. 93 min.

Z-rating: 8.5 out of 10 stars for violence, nudity, and explicit gore

A cast of Survivor-like reality show contestants are thrown into the woods of West Virginia, where they are hunted and killed by a family of cannibal mutants. This uber-violent and gory sequel to the original Wrong Turn is one of the better slashers to come out after the new millennium.

Anyone who has seen The Hills Have Eyes, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the more recent House of 1,000 Corpses is familiar with psychotic families. (Those that slay together, stay together!) This band of mutated freaks are more closely related (HA! No pun intended.) to the family of freaks in Alexandre Aja's remake of Wes Craven's classic The Hills Have Eyes series. Although I have to say that I enjoyed this movie way more than The Hills Have Eyes remake. This movie starts off with some chick getting split in half, down the middle like a piece of firewood, and her guts spilling out all over the floor before each half of her body flops to the ground like wet noodles. How can you deny a movie that starts off on the right foot and doesn't let up on any of the killer mutant action? You can't. This movie was fuckin AWESOME. I also love the premise that they're on a reality show and they initially think that the dangers they're in is all apart of the game. (Also, Henry Rollins is super fuckin bad ass as a retired marine commander.) Great character development for each of the contestants, you can see how the differences in their individual personalities make for a diverse cast of people that you genuinely feel for when they die.

Wouldn't you HATE to see her die too? *sniff* ='(

Nudity: There's a good scene where one of the sexy female contestants frees her puppies for the camera... but when the "forced" chemistry between herself and another contestant doesn't work out, she sucks some extra screen time out of the producer instead. She is a very ambitious girl and that's a very admirable quality.

Gore: 5 out of 5!!!! Awesome gore, totally splatter-riffic!!! Exactly the type of horror movie I like to watch. Guts spill out on the floor, people get axes to the head, pieces of people are eaten. Graphic stuff.

Awesome: Totally, one of the best horror movies I've seen in a LONG time. While trying to branch out to other genres, I haven't been watching very many horror movies in recent months. With October coming up, I started watching a ton of the horror movies that I just had piling up. This movie reminded me of why I love horror movies and why I will have a special place in my heart for this genre.
