Lake Placid (1999)

Lake Placid (USA, 1999) - Color, Director(s): Steve Miner
MPAA Rating: R
Approx. 82 min.

Z-rating: 7 out of 10 stars

This is still one of my favorite animals attacks movies. People and cattle start disappearing when Bill Pullman (The Serpent and the Rainbow, Independence Day) is sent to investigate along with Bridget Fonda (Kiss of the Dragon, Army of Darkness). After doing a bit of investigation down by the lake, they realize that GIANT freakin' crocodile is responsible for the recent "mysterious" disappearances. (Wouldn't have been able to guess that by the poster huh? Yeah, had me fooled too...) I remember seeing this movie as part of an advance screening, this movie actually had me laughing out loud. This was the film that first introduced me to Oliver Platt, who was absolutely hilarious as an eccentric millionaire that believes the giant croc to be some mythical creature. The back and forth dialogue between Platt and the sheriff is priceless. (*picks up a human toe off the floor* "Is this the man that was killed?" [sarcastically] "He seemed... taller.") Also, Betty White is in this movie!!!

Nudity: None that I can remember

Gore: Not a splatter film but has animal violence and the loss of some limbs.

Awesome: Very. This movie is also very entertaining! If you're looking for a good movie to throw on so your party guests can mingle, this would be a good one to play in the background for people to glance over at.
