Sci-Fi Saturday (8/7/10)

The Blob (USA, 1988) - Color, Director: Chuck Russel
MPAA Rating: R
Approx. 95 min.

Z-rating: 8 out of 10 stars

This is one of my favorite alien/creature movies ever. I love that some sloppy, gooey, icky sludge monster just fell from the sky and started eating people. This movie was great because it was actually a lot gorier than I first expected. I thought I was going to see some cheesy blob just spill over onto someone and they were going to disappear inside of it, but instead... we get a complete digestion of some teenager where you get to hear him screaming as he melts away. There's another scene where we get to see some girl's face get sucked inward, like an empty juice carton on the last sip, as if her skull and innards were completely digested from the inside.

Move along, folks. Nothing to see here....

This movie was totally sweet for the amount of gore, violence, and the creepy idea of an unstoppable giant blob chasing after you. (Sorta like a movie about the ooze from Ghostbusters 2... only cooler cause of the gore!!!) We also get to see a young Shawnee Smith long before she became Jigsaw's apprentice in the SAW movie series. Totally awesome 80's goodness about some outer space creature feature? Fuck yeah....

Like some sorta horrible bubble gum accident....
